Whitewater Week

The last few days have been spectacular. The boys and dad went on a 2.5 day whitewater rafting excursion with the Venture and Varsity age boys in our troop. Dad was in charge so Jacob and Matthew got to join.

We rafted the South Fork of the American River on Thursday and the Middle Fork of the American River on Friday. Saturday we had a half day of climbing up in the sierras on some sheer granite cliffs.

Grandpa Smith went along as the camp host and the camp chef. Everyone was very appreciative of his spending Wed - Saturday in the camp to reserve and protect our gear and to chef up some awesome meals of dutch oven scalloped poatoes, steaks, ceasar salad, spahetti, etc.

What a great day to start Summer!

Just in Time

The pool is finally finished. We decided the rough, sandpaperish plaster and the tile falling off the spa wall needed some sprucing up. They have been working all May so we could be swimming in June. Our arms hurt from brushing, so were glad that part is over.

The kids have been in the pool each night, especially Kathryn.

Truth be told...

Well today is Thursday June 12th. Its the last day of school so the kids are all thinking special things should happen (special breakfasts, special lunches, special dinner). This morning the kitchen was a dust cloud of flour, sugar, oatmeal and chocolate chips as Matthew (with the dark brown puppydog eyes) convinced his mother that he needed to take a cookie to every person in his class. About 10 a.m. Kathryn walked down the hall with chocolate all over her mouth and face. I said "did you eat a cookie" she said "no". I said "ya right". She said "no I did not I have been eating only chocolate chips".

Let the truth be told!

Kathryn Hepburn Smith

Here is Kathryn posing for a picture with her fan club at Santa Cruz's New Brighton Beach State Park. It isnt often she comes out in public so we thought it would be good for you to see this movie star.

....we love you Kathryn

The Joy of Gardening

We decided to build some garden boxes. It was a fun project for the family.

Grandma Throckmorton was here at planting time and we loved her help planting the strawberries, herbs and lettuce. Grandma - the Cilantro is ready...waiting on the tomatoes, jalapenos and onions and then its time for a little fiesta.

The radishes are the first thing up so Grandpa Smith needs to come and get some since he is the only one that will eat them.
